I hope you guys like this one as well. I's a little different but good I hope. Enjoy!
Where was I ?, yeah I just jumped off a cliff with absolutely no idea how to swim. You know how people say when you’re about to die your life flashes before your eyes?, well that’s not necessarily true at least not in my case. I kept thinking, this cannot possibly be it. I mean, I refuse to die like this. This is quite a pathetic way to die to be honest. If I’m going to die, let it be while trying to save someone’s life or something. Not because I practically committed suicide. It seemed like quite a long fall but I finally hit the water legs first and then everything just became blurry. I felt the waves slap against my body as I desperately tried to push myself up above the water. “What did Priya say again about floating?. Damn! I should really have paid attention. Ok I think she said to do the frog thing with my legs, wait no that’s for moving forward…or was it. Ok frog thing with my legs then I think she said push the water down with my arms”. None of it seemed to work because every time my head came up above the water, the waves would pour over my head again pushing me further down. I fought the waves with no luck and then finally I just gave up. Maybe it was my time to pass on to “the great beyond”, but isn’t one supposed to at least accomplish something before they die? I mean we all have a purpose for being on earth right?. You can’t tell me I’ve fulfilled my purpose already and didn’t even realize it”. I just let myself sink to the bottom of the lake. My eyes where closed at first , then I thought “If I’m going to die, I might as well see what’s at the bottom of the ocean first hand or in this case a lake or whatever. I’m not even sure what I fell in to.” So I opened my eyes and what did I see? A mermaid!. Yes a mermaid, or something that sure looked like one. This is something they don’t tell you about drowning. Maybe all that water somehow get’s into your brain and you start seeing things. Ok so I thought, maybe if I blinked it would be gone by the time I opened my eyes. WRONG.
The mermaid like thing kept swimming towards me . It wasn’t exactly like what they show in those Disney cartoons. From what I could see, it didn’t have hair. More like a mass of really bright red molten substance flowing from its head and spilling all the way around its face while it swam forward, kinda like how hair would move in water. The light was so bright I found it hard to keep my eyes open, so I moved my arms to shield my eyes. The thing stopped right in front of me and a wave of panic hit me. I know that sounds ridiculous considering the fact that I was practically drowning, that is if I hadn’t already drowned. It had beige scales forming a nice pattern from it’s face all the way down to its waist. I looked down from to see if it had legs and if I wasn’t under water I would have screamed. It had the biggest fish tail. If it were a fish, it’d probably be a shark or something. Its tail was covered in shiny silver scales. By the time my eyes climbed back to its face, it was like its face had grown five times bigger. It had really big yellow eyes with cat-like pupils, no nose and just a thin line where a mouth is usually supposed to be. I jerked my head back in shock and the slit opened releasing a very long whip-like tongue. The tongue wrapped itself around my waist. It began to squeeze me so hard that I thought I was going to snap in half like a pencil. The pain became so unbearable that I passed out. Somewhere in my state of unconsciousness, I felt a slender arm pull me. I felt the arm pull me upwards and then suddenly there was no more water around me. I heard a tiny voice call my name and shake me in panic. I recognized it to be Priya’s voice. She kept applying pressure on my chest and blowing air into my mouth. After a while, I felt myself slip back to consciousness. Almost like I was asleep and had been woken up. I began to cough and spit water out of my mouth, and then I tried to open my eyes. I could only make out Priya’s face vaguely so I blinked a few times more, and then I could see her clearly kneeling beside me all wet and red faced. She sighed in relief as I coughed some more and tried to sit up straight. She hugged me and started to sob. I don’t know if she realized I wasn’t quite strong enough to hold her and console her.
“I guess I should pay more attention to all your ramblings about swimming hunh”, I managed to say. She laughed weakly and released me.
“You scared the crap out of me, don’t ever do that again.”
“I’ll try not to”, replied trying to remember what I had seen down at the bottom of the lake.
“I saw something down there, a mermaid type thing”. I saw a flicker of shock followed by panic on Priya face but it disappeared almost immediately.
“I should get you to the hospital”
“I’m fine, I’m not crazy. I know what I saw”. I was frustrated that she thought I was talking crazy and was desperate to get her to believe me. She hugged me again and made little circles around my back with her palm as she whispered that everything would be fine. Yeah right, there’s a monster down there and it may decide to take anyone who swims there. I wonder what scared the monster off. Was it afraid of Priya? . Come to think of it, she always wore this weird pendant around her neck that had something that looked like a fish on it. I wondered if It had anything to do with the mermaid thing I saw. Did I say this was the story of how I died?, I meant ALMOST died.
